The Best Cafes and Coffee Shops in Eastleigh

From the independent Coffee Cabin next to Steam Town to the community Blackbird Cafe in the park — a guide to where to get a good coffee and a proper breakfast in Eastleigh.

Eastleigh's independent cafe scene punches above its weight. Alongside the obligatory Costa and Caffe Nero in the Swan Centre, there are several genuinely good independent options worth seeking out.

Coffee#1 Eastleigh — Best for Working and Everyday Coffee

Coffee#1 at 38 Market Street is the strongest option in Eastleigh town centre. Part of a small independent-spirited chain (not to be confused with the national chains), Coffee#1 offers artisan coffees, loose-leaf teas, and freshly made food in a relaxed setting with large street-facing windows and an outdoor canopy. Dog-friendly section, disabled access, and baby-changing facilities.

Opening hours: Monday–Friday 7am–5:30pm, Saturday 8am–6pm, Sunday 9am–5pm. Phone: 023 8061 6387.

The early weekday opening makes it useful for a pre-commute coffee — Eastleigh station is a 3-minute walk.

Blackbird Cafe — Best Community Cafe

The Blackbird Cafe is inside the Pavilion on the Park leisure complex at 1 Kingfisher Road. It has a calm, genuinely community-spirited atmosphere that many town centre cafes lack. The vegan and vegetarian options are better than most Eastleigh cafes, and the homemade cakes and hot chocolate are particularly well-regarded.

Opening hours: Monday–Friday 9am–4pm, Sunday 9am–3pm (closed Saturdays). Phone: 023 8001 2312. It's a bit off the beaten track for people not already heading to the leisure centre, but well worth the short detour.

Poppins Cafe & Restaurant — Best All-Day Cafe

Poppins at 27–29 Leigh Road is a proper, reliable family-run all-day cafe. Full British breakfasts, sandwiches, baked potatoes, and hot meals — nothing fancy, but genuinely well-cooked and consistently praised. Open Monday–Saturday 8:30am–5pm, Sunday 9:30am–4pm. Phone: 023 8178 0828.

The Coffee Cabin — Best Independent Speciality Coffee

The Coffee Cabin at 3 Bishopstoke Road is an independent specialty coffee cabin next to Steam Town Brew Co. Small, focused, walk-in only. Open Wednesday–Sunday 8am–3pm. If you're already heading to Steam Town for lunch or a weekend afternoon, this is an excellent start to the morning.

Costa Coffee — Swan Centre

For chain coffee inside a shopping centre, Costa in the Swan Centre is the predictable option. Fine for what it is. The Swan Centre also has a Caffe Nero nearby.

Tips

- Coffee#1 is the best option for getting work done in a cafe.
- Blackbird Cafe is the best option if you want a quieter, less commercial atmosphere.
- Poppins is the best option for a full cooked breakfast.
- None of the Eastleigh cafes are particularly well-suited for remote work in the evenings — by 5–6pm most are closed.
