Hampshire Fostering Live comes to Eastleigh this May
Hampshire County Council is hosting a free drop-in fostering event at Places Leisure Centre on Saturday 16 May, inviting prospective carers to learn more.
A chance to discover fostering in Eastleigh
Hampshire County Council is bringing Hampshire Fostering LIVE! to Places Leisure Centre in Eastleigh this May, offering a welcoming introduction to foster care for anyone considering the role.
The free drop-in event takes place on Saturday 16 May 2026 from 10am to 1pm, during Foster Care Fortnight 2026 (11 to 24 May) – a nationwide initiative that highlights the everyday realities of fostering and celebrates the positive impact carers make in children's lives.
What to expect at the event
Visitors will have the opportunity to speak directly with experienced social workers, current foster carers and specialist support staff, who will share their knowledge and real-life experiences of fostering. Whether you're just curious or seriously considering becoming a foster carer, the team will guide you through what the role truly involves and explain all the support available.
The event will cover the different types of fostering needed across Hampshire, allowing attendees to hear personal stories from carers about their experiences. You'll learn about the practical side of fostering too – including training opportunities, allowances, finances and the professional support provided to every Hampshire foster carer, available 24/7.
Fitting fostering around your life
One of the key topics the team will discuss is how fostering can work alongside work, family life and different household circumstances. If you've wondered whether fostering could fit into your current situation, this is the perfect chance to find out. The event also provides guidance on the assessment process and advice on preparing your home.
Why foster carers are needed
Across Hampshire, there are children and young people who need safe, supportive homes where they can feel secure, listened to and able to thrive. Foster care allows these young people to stay close to their schools, friends and communities whilst receiving the care and stability they deserve. New foster carers are always needed to meet this vital demand.
Easy access in Eastleigh town centre
There's no need to book – simply drop in when it suits you. Places Leisure Centre has a large free car park and is conveniently located within walking distance of both Eastleigh train station and the town centre, making it easy to visit.
If you've been thinking about becoming a foster carer but weren't sure where to start, Hampshire Fostering LIVE! promises to give you a clear picture of what the role involves and the support available to you every step of the way.
