Payment Methods

You can pay your council tax in several ways:

Direct Debit (recommended): Around 45,000 Eastleigh residents use Direct Debit. You choose either the 7th or 21st of the month to pay. It is the most straightforward option.

Online via MyEastleigh: Use a debit or credit card to pay through your council tax account

24-hour automated phone line: 023 8068 8833 — select the Council Tax option

Bank transfer:
Sort code: 20-79-41
Account: 30862711
Use your 9-digit account reference (starting with 9) as the payment reference

By post: Cheque to Eastleigh Borough Council, Eastleigh House, Upper Market Street, Eastleigh, SO50 9YN

In person: Cash at the reception of Eastleigh House

---

Payment Plan Options

Standard: Your council tax is split into 10 monthly instalments from April to January

Extended: Request 12 monthly instalments instead by giving 14 days notice. This spreads payments more evenly through the year.

On-time payment: Over 96% of Eastleigh residents pay their council tax on time

---

Council Tax Bands

Your property is assigned to a council tax band (A–H) based on its estimated 1991 value. The band determines your annual charge.

Check your band: Look up your property by postcode on the Valuation Office Agency website or contact the council. Use the council's council-tax-bands page for the current lookup tool.

Band charges: Current charges are not listed here — they are set annually by the council and vary by band. Check the council's council tax page for current figures.

Challenging your band: You can appeal your band through the Valuation Office Agency, but you must continue paying at your current band while the appeal is considered.

Single Person's Discount (25% Off)

Who qualifies: If you are the only adult (18+) living in the property as your main home (not a second home), you automatically get 25% off your council tax

How to apply: Tell the council via the Council Tax enquiry form on MyEastleigh or by contacting the Revenues & Benefits Team. Include the date that someone moved in or out.

Reviews: The council periodically reviews Single Person's Discount claims with a third-party data-matching service to check the discount is still valid

Council Tax Support (Means-Tested Reduction)

If you are on a low income or receive certain benefits, you may qualify for Council Tax Support — a reduction in what you pay.

Who qualifies: Residents on certain benefits or with a low income. Eligibility is means-tested.

How to apply: Fill in an online form with supporting documents

Contact: Revenues & Benefits Team
Phone: 023 8068 8000
Email: revbens@eastleigh.gov.uk

Moving House

Notify the council when you move in, out, or within the borough. One notification updates:
- Your Council Tax account
- Housing Benefit (if applicable)
- Subscribed services (e.g. garden waste collection)

How: Use the moving-home form on the council's website

Estimated timescale: The council aims to resolve Council Tax enquiries within 25 working days (more complex cases may take longer)

---

SMS Reminders

The council now sends SMS text reminders before a final notice is issued. This is genuine council contact, not a scam.
